Jesus Stopped

Broken humanity
Bruised and beaten
Wallowing in self-righteousness
and drowning in ignorance.
Until one day Jesus stopped…

As Jesus walked along the timeline of history
What he saw caused him to stop.
His Father’s compassion and steadfast love
Overflowing to a broken humanity
Jesus stopped…
He came to this earth – a depraved generation
Jesus became mortal– He became a part of every generation He saw
The sin and shame became his own.

The God of the Universe limited Himself
He became the man we could not become
He lived the life we in our own depravity could not live
Jesus stopped as he passed by humanity
Sinking in injustice and hatred
A generation corrupt and selfish
Jesus stopped…

And as he walked down the streets, barefoot and vulnerable,
He stopped.
Jesus stooped down to hold the hand of the child,
He lowered his gaze to look the beggar, the leper and the blind man in the eye.
Jesus stopped as he walked past the hurting, the marginalized and the outcast.
Jesus stopped to heal and to set free
Jesus stopped…

Upon that cross, all of time stopped
The Father turned His face from His only son,
As the shame of the generations that Jesus loves,
now covered and marred this perfect life
Jesus stopped and took the shame of the world upon His shoulders…
Jesus Stopped…
Jesus loved.
